A leap into the unknown
I didn’t have a clue what was going to happen. I just sold my apartment, cancelled all contracts, quitted my job and basically sold everything I owned. Some furniture and personal items where stored away and I bought an open ticket to Bangkok.I well remember the goodbye’s and hugs to my parents and good friend on Schiphol Airport, and I so well remember how I felt walking around the corner. I was alone. I left everything behind, and I would head off into the unknown for God knows how long. I felt amazing. I was free as a bird. That moment was a long time ago. And taking that leap into the unknown back then made me realize a lot.
We are used to create safety around us, to collect things and property. It is what we do. We work, we earn, we spend. We (and of course I am generalizing here, but look in the mirror, does this apply to you?) mostly want more. We want more, bigger, better, faster and the preferably the latest version of it. We want it all.
We are greedy and we forget to chase dreams and to make that leap into the unknown. Cause it might be scary and it has it’s uncertainties and we don’t take time to do so. But isn’t our whole life one big uncertainty? We don’t know what will happen tomorrow now don’t we? We think we do when we check our agenda or look at our calendars. But then something unexpected happens and time stands still. Time, that “thing” that is our enemy. Time ticks on and goes so fast.
Things you collected in your life like a house, boat or car don’t matter anymore when you are gone. Folks won’t remember those materialistic things. Stuff will be sold or passed on. What does remain are the friends you made, the conversations you had, the love you shared, the dreams you chased and goals and ideals you stood for.
By leaping into the unknown you will grow. It will make you a better version of yourself. Remember, it is your life. You have to execute it, not anyone else. And making that leap into the unknown doesn’t have to be that one way ticket out of here and selling everything you have. But it can be that other job you always wanted, it could be that one challenge you wanted to do for a long time. It could be that destination you are dreaming of, it could be that one sport you love.
Step into the unknown! Make that leap of faith, try it, experience it. Maybe it doesn’t work, maybe it does. Always accept that, and always accept that one way or the other, you’ve at least tried. You executed plans, dreams and challenges and took that leap into the unknown!

Het leven is te kort om je eigen druk te maken om materialisme. Geld is makkelijk als je het hebt maar zeker niet belangrijk. Roel mooi geschreven make each day count. ??
